Observation tower at the Altkünkendorf Info Point

Next to the Altkünkendorf Info Point and its exhibition about the Beech Forest Grumsin stands the village church, designed in 1850 by architect Friedrich August Stüler. The steeple was restored with the help of lottery funds from the Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment. The eight-sided tower of the fieldstone church, which reopened in March 2019, offers beautiful views of the Grumsin Beech Forest World Heritage Site from its windows at a height of 34 metres.

The church is maintained by the Förderverein Dorfkirche Altkünkendorf e.V.

Please note: For safety reasons, no more than ten people may enter the tower at any one time.

The viewing tower is accessible during the opening hours of the information centre when at least two caretakers are working in the information centre.
The ascent is only possible with a companion from the information centre or a certified nature and landscape guide during a guided tour (“A primeval forest is created” or “Living World Heritage”). Admission for visitors aged 14 and over: €2.50. There is a discount for school groups.
Note on parking spaces: You are not allowed to park directly at the information point or at the forest entrance of the “Orange Beech Leaf Trail”. However, there are two parking lots nearby, see overview map. Please use these. The parking lots fill up quickly, especially in summer. It is essential that you use public transport.
