Accessibility Statement

Digital Accessibility

The City of Angermünde is committed to making its website, https://welterbe-grumsin.de, accessible to everyone. Our goal is to ensure that our content is understandable and usable by all people, regardless of individual limitations or technical requirements. In doing so, we adhere to recognized standards of digital accessibility.

Standards and Legal Framework

Our accessibility strategy is based on the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 in conformance levels A and AA as well as the Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0). These international guidelines define how content must be designed so that it can be used by as many people as possible – for example those with motor, sensory or cognitive impairments – without any problems.

Legal Basis:

  • Brandenburg Act on Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (BbgBGG)
  • Brandenburg Ordinance on Accessible Information Technology (BbgBITV)
  • Accessible Information Technology Regulation (BITV 2.0)
  • EU Directive 2016/2102
  • European Standard EN 301 549 (Version 3.2.1)

Results of the accessibility audit

An automated check with the axe DevTools tool has shown that our website is not yet fully accessible. 25 content pages were checked: Home, Contact, Search, News, Impressions, Guided tours, Offers, How to get here, Lecture series, Calendar of events, Hiking routes, Accommodation & food, Excursion destinations, Bicycle rental, Behavior in the World Heritage Site, Swimming, Mushroom picking, World Heritage pages on Germany and Europe, Publications, Research, Stakeholders, Donations, Imprint, Data protection.

A total of approximately 430 accessibility issues were identified:

  • 9 as critical (e.g., missing alternative text, incorrect ARIA attributes, incorrect list semantics)
  • 421 as serious (primarily color contrast issues, links with no visible text)
  • 0 as medium
  • 0 as minor
The accessibility score calculated on the basis of the automated analysis is around 55%.
As a manual check includes other aspects that cannot be recorded automatically (e.g. keyboard navigation, screen reader reading order, semantic structure, forms, language labeling), the realistic accessibility level is estimated at around 40%.

Welche Funktionen sind bereits vorhanden

  • Content is generally structured with headings and paragraphs
  • The main navigation is present and consistent
  • Text content is accessible to screen readers
  • The website is available in German, English, and Polish
  • The legal notice and privacy policy are included and comply with all formal requirements

What barriers exist

  • Numerous color contrast issues make the text difficult to read
  • Alternative text is missing for some images
  • Links without visible text make it harder for screen readers to use the site
  • Incorrect ARIA attributes can lead to misunderstandings
  • There is currently no content available in easy-to-read language or sign language

How we break down barriers

  • Gradual revision of the color scheme to meet contrast requirements
  • Adding alternative text to all relevant images
  • Correction of incorrect link elements and ARIA attributes
  • Assessment of the Need for Content in Plain Language and Sign Language
  • Ongoing optimization of accessibility in future updates
