Guided tour: A Primeval Forest Emerges

Every second and fourth Saturday of the month, a guided hike led by certified nature and landscape guides introduces you to the unique beauty of the Grumsin beech forest. The meeting point for this hike is Hemme-Milch in Schmargendorf. The hike into the Grumsin begins in Zuchenberg. From there, the route passes through moors and a variety of forests until it leads directly into the wonderful World Heritage Site. Along the way, you’ll discover ancient beech trees, a roller-coaster-like landscape, and large moors, before heading back to Zuchenberg past the two Plunz lakes. Please wear sturdy shoes.

Length of the hike:
Approx. four hours

Participants:
Max. 15 people (The number of participants is limited due to the area’s sensitivity and scheduling.)

Guided Tour: Living World Heritage

Deep valleys with numerous lakes, moors, and small water bodies alternate with prominent ridges. The area is home to five different woodpecker species, collared flycatchers, and even the kingfisher at its water bodies. The European tree frog benefits from the many ponds, while intact moors harbour rare plant species like sundew, cotton grass, swamp rosemary, and bladder sedge.
