Arrival at the Beech Forest Grumsin
How to use the dynamic map:
On the right side of the map you will find buttons and symbols that allow you to filter the map. Clicking on the respective buttons or symbols shows you the respective views.
By clicking on the Hand-Icons to the right of the buttons, you will find further information about the respective connections. Please note: The last four icons are not clickable and serve only as a legend.
If you see stop with a hand icon on the map, you can retrieve Information about the distance to the boundary of the World National Heritage for the four stops near Grumsin. To do this, move the mouse pointer over the stop symbol with the hand to display the additional information.

Arrival by public transport.
We recommend travelling by public transport.Arrival by public transport.
You can get there by train (RE3/ RE66/ RB66 to Angermünde) and then by World Heritage bus line 497 (from April to October). The bus goes via Schmargendorf/Hemme-Milch to Altkünkendorf (Mitte), where the Info Point welcomes you.
Another bus line (452) runs all year round from Monday to Friday and on weekends from 1 June to 31 August from Angermünde station.
From November to March, you can reach the site on weekends by call bus. The trip must be booked one hour in advance by calling 03332 442755. For details, see www.vbb.de
The Welterbe-Bus runs every two hours from 10:40 a.m., and from 9:40 a.m. on weekends.
EiIt is also possible to travel by train to Joachimstahl and from there by bus 920 to Groß-Ziethen. The starting point for a hike there is the Geopark Info Point.
Both the info point in Altkünkendorf and the info point at the Geopark Centre in Groß-Ziethen are potential starting points, offering further information and advice to visitors. While the exhibition and information in Altkünkendorf focus on the beech forest, the Geopark mainly provides information about the Ice Age formation and the geological conditions of the region.

Arriving by car: Where can I park?
To arrive by car, take the A11, exit Joachimsthal, then the B198 towards Angermünde to Groß-Ziethen. There you can park in the southern part of the Grumsin Beech Forest at the Groß-Ziethen Geopark (approx. 50 parking spaces). If you want to hike through the Grumsin Beech Forest from the north, you can drive to Angermünde and from there along Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße via Gehegemühle to Altkünkendorf. However, the parking spaces here are limited to around 15 and therefore fill up quickly, especially at weekends during the summer months. Therefore, use public transport if possible.
Arrival by bike
There are numerous cycle paths around the Grumsin Beech Forest, such as the Berlin-Usedom cycle path, the Tour Brandenburg route or the Uckermark cycle route (see map above). Therefore, you can also plan your journey by public transport or by bicycle. For example, you can start from Angermünde (regional train connection) and take the same route as the 452 bus or the 497 World Heritage bus (see map). In Altkünkendorf you have the possibility to park your bike at the Info Point and start the hike from there.
You are also welcome to take advantage of the well-equipped bicycle shops in Angermünde, which also rent out e-bikes.
A bicycle tour through the World Heritage area is not recommended due to fallen trees (see the note on accessibility at Verhalten im Weltnaturerbe) and cobblestone streets.
There are also tried and tested cycle tours around the Grumsin Beech Forest. Users of Komoot, a route planner website, have put together some tours here.
