Mushroom picking
Especially in autumn, the Grumsin Beech Forest attracts many visitors to the World Natural Heritage site due to its beautiful fall foliage. But it’s not just the autumn colours that make this place so appealing. The abundant deadwood and the natural state of the Grumsin Beech Forest promote the development of many mushroom species. Edible mushrooms are also found here.
However please note that the UNESCO World Natural Heritage site is a sensitive ecosystem with a strict protection status. Therefore, picking mushrooms in the entire nature reserve and World Heritage Site of the Grumsin Beech Forest (including herbs and flowers) strictly forbidden. The Naturwacht (Nature Guard) regularly patrol the area.

The State Office for the Environment (LfU) provides a mapshowing the location of all nature reserves. Here you can find the locations where picking mushrooms is permitted.
This is how you proceed:
1. Click on the link above and zoom in on the region where you want to pick mushrooms.
2. In the theme tree, “Landscape Protection Areas (LSG)” and “Nature Reserves (NSG)” are already preselected. In the green hatched areas that are not additionally shaded dark green, you are allowed to forage for mushrooms.
Alternatively:
If you are interested, you can join a guided mushroom hike in the Buchenwald Grumsin (without a collecting permit) or in the Biosphärenreservat Schorfheide-Chorin (including mushroom collecting).
